Comunanza territory is located along the upper valley of the River Aso<\/b> and has a split personality, with its industrial buildings in the lower part of the town, erected in the 1960s, and its Medieval<\/b> soul, visible in the old centre that still retains the characteristic appearance of a village of the Middle Ages.<\/p>\n
The Aso river divides the modern city from the old town<\/b>, which can be reached over a bridge that crosses homes set sheer over the river. Beyond the bridge, we find the church of Santa Caterina d\u2019Alessandria<\/b>. Rebuilt in neoclassical style in 1831 to a design by Pietro Maggi, has a Baroque organ with two keyboards<\/b>, unique in Europe for its age, size and sound.<\/p>\n
In the historical centre the late-Romanesque church of San Francesco <\/b>features <\/b>front porches and a bell tower, while the aisleless interior has a trussed roof and eighteenth-century altar.<\/p>\n
Historic Palazzo Pascali<\/b> is not only the home to the city library but also to the museum of sacred art<\/b>, which houses some extraordinary goldsmithing and also works by Giuseppe Ghezzi (1634\u2013 1721), an artist originally from Comunanza, named director of the Roman academy of San Luca.<\/p>\n
At the centre of what was once the Roman settlement of Interamnia, we find the sandstone church of<\/b> Santa Maria a Terme<\/b>, built in the ninth century in the Romanesque style above the remains of a temple dedicated to Dionysus. The square building has an apse divided into three parts by pilasters, while the fa\u00e7ade is adorned with animal sculptures; the aisleless interior has a barrel vault and thirteenth-century frescoes.<\/p>\n
